A Hockinson war memorial project documented in 1973 was created through volunteer labor and community donations to remember local young people who died in war.
The project centered on a drinking fountain on the south side of school property. Jack Weber was identified as chairman of the memorial effort. Plans included a bronze plaque and the incorporation of a school bell into the structure.
The historical article says the project was prompted especially by the deaths of three young men from the same Hockinson class during the Vietnam War: Tim Mattson, Dale Lindberg and Lester Vaughan.
The same account says four former Hockinson students had died during World War II, bringing the number of former students remembered by Weber to seven.
Students, the PTA and individual residents contributed to the memorial. That community participation is part of the story: the structure was intended not simply as a monument, but as a locally built act of remembrance.
This history is presented primarily to preserve the names and the community record rather than as a commercial story.
