Hockinson history did not end with pioneer farms, old schoolhouses or Finnish lodge dances. A later community feature captures a much more recent version of rural life: a family-built dirt-bike track on private acreage.
“Spotted: In Hockinson,” by Kim Jarvis, documents Nathan Kysar and family members using the track with children, relatives and friends. The article describes a property where acreage allowed the family to create its own outdoor recreation space.
Photographs identify family members and young riders spending time around the track while adults supervised and worked nearby. The scene is ordinary compared with a major historic event—but that is exactly why it belongs in a community archive.
Early historical photographs preserve ordinary life that later became valuable because someone bothered to document it. Modern rural routines can serve the same function for future generations.
