A surviving historical drawing identifies the Hockinson School as built in 1895 and shows how it appeared in 1918. The caption says Bradley Katzele created the drawing from an old photograph.
The building represents an important stage in Hockinson's school history. Organized local schooling had begun in Eureka in 1870, so the 1895 structure was not Hockinson's first school. By the World War I era, the district was already in what a later student history describes as its fourth schoolhouse.
The school-history record describes four classrooms, two upstairs and two downstairs, with pot-bellied stoves for heat. It stood near what would later be remembered in relation to the Hockinson One-Stop.
The 1895 date is therefore a documented building milestone rather than a town-founding date—a useful distinction when interpreting Hockinson's many historical dates.
